Checking Windows' Privileges

 

For Windows 7:

  1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel.

  2. From the Control Panel, select User Accounts.

  3. From User Accounts, select Change Account Types.

  4. In the User Name list, find the User with which you login to Windows. If it has the word "Administrators" under the Group column, you are an Administrator on that machine. NOTE: To make sure, select that user, click Properties, select the Group Membership tab and make sure the Administrator option is selected.

  5. If you are not an Administrator, contact your System Administrator and ask him/her to give you Administrator access.

 

For Windows 8:

  1. On the Start page, type Users.

  2. In the Search area (right side of page), select Settings.

  3. In the Results area (left side of page), select Change account type.

  4. In the User Name list, find the User with which you login to Windows. If it has the word "Administrators" under the Group column, you are an Administrator on that machine. NOTE: To make sure, select that user, click Properties, select the Group Membership tab and make sure the Administrator option is selected.

  5. If you are not an Administrator, contact your System Administrator and ask him/her to give you Administrator access.
