The File Tab

How to Use OnLine Help

Introduction

The File Tab allows you to create new and close existing sessions, customize your Quick Access Toolbar and your Ribbon, show or hide the Navigator and Main Grid, switch to the classic Navigator, restore settings and exit StaffSuite. Most of the functionality on the File tab can be performed elsewhere, but the File Tab makes for a "one-stop shop" for similar functionality.

Creating a New Session and Closing an Existing Session

  1. To create a new session, click New Session on the File Tab.

  2. To close an existing session, make sure the session you want to close is the active one and then select Close Session on the File Tab.

Customizing the Ribbon

Please see the Customizing the Ribbon topic for details.

Customizing the Quick Access Toolbar and Keyboard Shortcuts

Please see the Customizing the Quick Access Toolbar topic for details.

Showing/Hiding the Navigator and the Main Grid

  1. From the File Tab, select Options.

  2. From the Options screen, select Show/Hide.

  3. To show (or hide) the Navigator, click Show/Hide Navigator.

  4. To show (or hide) the Main Grid, click Show/Hide Grid.

Switching Between Navigator Views

If you like, you can switch back to the Navigator view from StaffSuite 5.3. If you do this, only the Navigator itself changes. The Quick Access Toolbar, Ribbon and Main Grid continue to work as if you were using the new Navigator. If you do switch to the old Navigator and want to switch back to the new Navigator, you can do that as well. Bond recommends using the new Navigator since it is designed to work with the new Ribbon and Main Grid.

  1. From the File Tab, select Options.

  2. From the Options screen, select Show/Hide.

  3. From the Show/Hide screen, select Classic Navigator. This toggles the Navigator between the old and new view.

Restoring Settings

You can restore the location and look of the Grid, Ribbon (look only), toolbar (look only) and Navigator (location only) to its system-delivered defaults. This is useful if you are customizing an area, accidentally make a mistake and don't know how to fix it. To restore to default system settings:

  1. From the File Tab, select Options.

  2. From the Options screen, select Restore.

  3. To restore the Main Grid and Navigator to their original default location, select Restore Dock Settings.

  4. To restore the Ribbon to its original default settings, select Restore Ribbon.

  5. To restore the Quick Access Toolbar to its default settings, select Restore Quick Access Toolbar.

  6. To restore the Main Grid to its default settings (including displayed columns, sorting and filters), select Restore Grid.

Exiting StaffSuite

  1. From the File Tab, select Exit. If any fields have changed and have not been saved, you will be prompted to save the changes before the system exits.

Click the forward arrow at the bottom of the screen to continue your step-by-step introduction to StaffSuite.
